Allison & Zac | A Five Year Anniversary in Rome by Rochelle Cheever |

1 May

I seldom post personal tidbits on the good old blog, but I feel like this is an occasion to share. :) Recently, my husband and I celebrated our five-year anniversary by backpacking in Europe. Ok wait, pause that.

Five years.

Where has the time gone? It feels just like yesterday that we went on our first date; lunch at an Indian food place in Fort Worth. That was January of 2007 and we were just about to graduate from college. 14 months later, we were married. Several moves, a million goofy, joyous moments, and some truly hard, frustrating times have composed our beautiful patchwork of five years of marriage. We have opened each other up to so many things, and balanced each other out. We have – unknowingly sometimes – pushed each other to our limits emotionally and spiritually, and we have grown so much together, especially in our faith. We have rescued a half-dead puppy off of the side of the road in the middle of the night, and bathed the now six-year-old stinker in our bathtub just last night. We have been in an airplane which we thought for a solid 45 seconds was going to go down after it was struck by lightning… on the way to our honeymoon. We have held each other and cried when loved ones passed. We also held each other and cried during the last episode of Lost. We have been to the ER together, and I remember how happy I was to hear Zac snoring as his DKA delirium broke and his blood sugar level spiraled from 984 on its way back down to a normal range. We have seen some of the most beautiful places on earth together and realized that anywhere, as long as we are together, is the most beautiful place to be.

I could talk about how I found Rochelle’s amazing work last year and how I planned our five-year anniversary celebration for the last 12 months; how I literally spent days trying to decide what we should wear for these photos and how I should do my hair and make-up, but ultimately I realized the eternal truth: It’s all about celebrating and relishing the journey, not consuming yourself with the destination. Here’s to the happiest five years my love, because Lord knows that the best is yet to come. :)

Wedlocked |A Sherlock-inspired Bridal Styled Shoot|

25 Apr

Earlier this year I met Vinnie for the first time. “We should do a styled shoot,” he suggested. Having recently moved from Chicago, Vinnie was very excited to establish his brand in our market, and I was more than happy to help out and get to know him and his lovely wife, Elsie.

Honestly my brain was frazzled though. I had done several styled shoots before, and encountered no lack of ideas for each of those, but this time there was a mental block. The past few months had been a wild, crazy, awesome ride for my personal life and my business and creatively, I felt a bit tapped out. I don’t know about you, but when day to day life seems frustrating and, well… boring… :) …. I find myself clinging on desperately to something that has nothing to do with everyday life; something not based in reality. I’ve always been a huge Sherlock Holmes fan, watching the old Grenada series with Jeremy Brett, and reading the original Arthur Conan Doyle stories at a very young age. When the new BBC series came out several years ago, my mom called me up and said I had to watch them. Had to. Of course the inevitable happened and I became an instant fan girl of Sherlock (and yes, the suspense until season three comes out this winter is absolutely KILLING me!). Like a comfy robe, watching Sherlock over and over and over… and over, became a mini-escape for me. Brain candy if you will. I’ve always been a huge admirer of great writing and visual composition. These elements wed with the superb acting in Sherlock is simply genius.  Like I said: brain candy!

Of course, as we all know, Sherlock Holmes would never get married (we can assume it would go in the “bad news for brain work” file and promptly deleted), but weddings are kind of my thing, and Sherlock has become a small obsession for me – just ask my husband ;) . I wanted to give Vinnie a concept, and being the Sher-geek that I am, I thought…. why not? Why not take a few of the themes brought up in Sherlock and just ask “what if Sherlock got married…” Why not, eh? Fan fiction and fan art inspired by the show can be found all over the web in numerous forms and social media outlets; this is my form. Thus, our “Wedlocked” concept was born.  We chose three themes to embody: A Study in Pink, The Woman, and Moriarty’s twisted take on Fairy Tales. Hardcore fan boys and girls might not agree with the interpretation of the themes our amazing team of professionals executed so, so, SO well, but personally, we were very pleased with the images produced. :) So without further ado, our Sherlock-inspired “Wedlocked” shoot. Can you observe some elements from within the entire series we interspersed in the shoot? Enjoy!

They Did: Tramelle & Steve! |Houston Wedding at The Villagio|

24 Feb

I’m not sure about you, but I’m the kind of person who believes that everything - everything - happens for a reason.  Because of this, I always feel so blessed to work with the brides and grooms who entrust their wedding day to me, and to have the privilege of getting to know them over the course of a year. It was such a joy working for Tramelle and Steve because their love and faith truly shine to all of those around them. They are an exceptional couple, graced with an exceptional family. They have encouraged me and constantly cheered on Blessed Events‘ current weddings and projects – even though their wedding took place last October! They are living proof that people cross paths for a purpose. :)

Tram and Steve had so many beautiful and meaningful details they wanted to incorporate flawlessly into their wedding and reception: from the gorgeous brooch bouquet Tramelle and her mother made, to the awesome shoes and accessories they gifted their bridal party with, all the way to their one of a kind unity ceremony during the wedding . After a wonderful dinner and some heartfelt toasts from the Maid of Honor and Best Man, the lighting in the room transformed, the dance floor packed up, and Steve and Tramelle were on cloud 9! :)

Tramelle and Steve, I love y’all! Your wedding day was absolutely stunning, but it could never outshine your sweet spirits. :)

Austin Goswick captured the day perfectly – take a peek!

Weddings, weddings… everywhere! Welcome to our newest couples!

21 Feb

Hello lovelies!

We have been so busy planning, plotting and creating that we haven’t had the chance to update the blog in a while. :) This afternoon however, we wanted to welcome our four newest couples to the Blessed Events family!

Several reasons I love planning weddings is because no two weddings are ever the same, and I get to work with such wonderful people in truly beautiful locations – all over the place! Candace and Jacob will be getting married at the beautiful Delaney Vineyards in Grapevine this summer – and believe you me, with the creativity of this bride’s family, both the wedding and reception is sure to be elegantly rustic and memorable! Kari and Derek will have a gorgeous evening wedding in Hot Springs, Arkansas, filled with romance. :)

I’m super excited about June and Petrus’ playfully sophisticated wedding to be held at the gorgeous Houston Racquet Club early in the fall,

and I absolutely cannot wait for Monica and Joey’s wedding at the historic Gage Hotel in Marathon, Texas!

This year is going to be ah-maz-ing! My cup truly runneth over. ;) Until next time, may your every moment be BLESSED!

They Did: Regina & Glen! |Houston Wedding at UH Chapel and The Majestic Metro|

HOW MUCH do I absolutely adore these people?! Well, too much to fully describe in one little blog post, that’s for sure! :)

When I first met Regina earlier this year, we just clicked and I immediately knew that this wedding was going to be a blast to plan and coordinate. Regina and Glen have got to be two of the most fun-loving, genuine and classy people who I have ever met, and their wedding day was a perfect celebration of their personalities. :) The day was truly cinematic, filled with sweet details and so many beautiful emotional highs. From the preparation at the stunning Hotel Zaza, to the trolley ride to the chapel, to the epic reception at the one-of-a-kind Majestic Metro, Regina and Glen’s wedding was a feast for the eyes and the heart!

Regina, you were truly a princess bride, and I’m so blessed to have been a part of your and Glen’s wedding. :)

Take a peek at some of the gorgeous moments that Margaret of Love Lee Photography captured during the day.

They Did: Tiffany & Shaun! |Houston Wedding at Trevisio|

The day was finally here, and she had waited for him her whole life. She was smiling and anxiously excited to see him for the first time that day. He was calm and quietly confident, overjoyed that today was the day. The ceremony room doors opened, and down the aisle beyond all of the happy faces of friends and family, she saw his face; his smile. Blissfully tearful, they dedicated their hearts and lives to each other for always… forever.

Tiffany and Shaun, your love is strong and indescribably beautiful, just like the both of you – inside and out! :) May your every moment be blessed beyond belief.
